In 1925 George Grenda started a milk carrying company. G. F. Grenda Milk Carrier collected milk in cans from farms around the Dandenong area and delivered it to metropolitan dairies. The family business continued to grow and was operating 12 trucks by 1945.

In 1945, George then purchased 4 bus routes from Shaves Bus Services which covered an area around Oakleigh, Dandenong, Berwick and Cheltenham. Twelve months later George sold his milk truck company and concentrated on building his public transport venture. Dandenong was a rapidly growing centre and the company grew to meet the needs of the people and commerce that came into the area.

These early foundations paved the way for a public transport and coach hire business which has experienced a history of continued growth that now sees it as the major player in the Australian public transport Industry.

Grenda Corporation's businesses now employ over 2000 people and turnover close to $400 million.

Grenda Transit operates in excess of six hundred and fifty vehicles on bus routes in Melbourne's rapidly expanding southeast. Our companies are the major providers of public transit in this area. Our task of providing public transport, school transport and coach hire services makes us a vital part of the community in the areas we service.

Our manufacturing arm, Volgren Australia, is Australia's largest bus body manufacturer; in 2010 it manufactured over 700 new vehicles for the Australian market. It has also exported over 1000 kits and completed vehicles to Asia, including 3-axle double deck city model, operating in Hong Kong and Singapore. We have four factories around Australian supplying buses to the government and private fleets in every state. Our state-of-the-art aluminium body structure has proven itself over many decades to be the most cost effective and safest on the market. We are also manufacturing vehicles in two locations overseas.
